Hi to all,
Time to get some normality back in my life, I thought I'd pass on some information about ESL in Korea. To be honest I feel really sorry for students in Korea they usually study up until 12 midnight (sometimes longer) and then go home to do homework getting to bed about 1 or 2 and getting up again about 7 o'clock. English is a big must in Korea as is getting into university. It's not unusual to hear students say that their life is finished if they don't get into a good uni (unfortunately some mean it and many jump from high buildings).

LETTUCE The "U" here is like the "i" in "is" so pronounce the word as "lettis"
LISTEN Is pronounced as "lissen" the T is silent also in "fasten", "castle" and "bustle"
SAYS Is not the same as SAY "says" is pronounced as "sezz"

Well the end of another week. Chris and I have been in South Korea for two years at the end of this month. Time goes so quickly, I must admit I get homesick sometimes but other times I'm happy to be here especially times like Autumn the scenery here is so beautiful in the Fall. Winter is well upon us it's getting colder and I'm getting aches and pains, being from Thailand I've never experienced this before. Am I getting old?

Mispronounced Words

Today I'm going to tell you about a few mispronounced words I have come across.
1. ARCHITECT
Do not pronounce the "ch" like the "ch" in "church". Pronounce it like a "k"as if the word was "ARKITECT"
2.CLIMB
Pronounce as if it were "clime", the "b" is silent. Also words such as "lamb" are pronounced "lam", "comb" as if it was "coam".
3. HOUR
The "h" is silent; hour is pronounced as "our". Other words with a silent "h" include "honour", "honest", "honourable" and "heir".
Just a few examples for today I'll give you some more tomorrow. If you know of other words you have trouble pronouncing please let me know and I'll try to help.
